What follows is an extract from a credit union annual accounts "critical of authorities who demonstrate little understanding of credit unions"
"Society’s expectations are unreal and
the role models adopted by society are often
downright idiotic. Today’s young people are ‘the
most harmed by profit and the most devoid of
prophets’. Young people have pointed out to me
that as far as they are concerned they have
been lied to since the day they could walk by
everybody including clergy, teachers, politicians,
even down to the ads on television….
Firstly, I feel I must apologise for the ever
lengthening Financial Statements and the
regulatory ‘gobble-de-gook’ they contain - I
assure it is all unfortunately deemed necessary by
authorities who demonstrate little understanding
of credit unions….
It was a year of unprecedented growth -
particularly strong in the area of shares and
deposits by members - a growth of over €8m,
demonstrating that the people of Kerry are not
being carried away on the consumerism bandwagon."

A very good example. I've been to a few meetings in my time as a credit union member. Regulations are a big issue where people on the board are always giving out about too much regulation. Why is this?
